The Myrtle Village Green is at the intersection of North Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill, in an area that was, historically, the center of Wallabout Village, a vibrant shipping town. You can see it here on the map of Brooklyn depicting the original five Dutch towns that came together to make up Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle wrote an account of the history of Wallabout Village in 1887. (Download the original here.)
Above is the Wallabout Canal on a 1904 map. This portion of the canal is now underground and has been engulfed by the Navy Yard. The green is the abandoned military hospital on the corner of Flushing Avenue and Williamsburg St. W. along side the BQE.
