MVG Possible Futures

Kent Ave. Park Committee, Proposal Spring 2001

Original Proposal, 2001 (click to enlarge)

A decade ago, the Kent Avenue Stabilization Taskforce, working with Community Board 3, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program, and artist Jody Pinto, developed a vision for the site that was never actualized. We have the opportunity now to build on that vision and incorporate sustainable urban practices and agriculture into the site.

On February 3, 2012, Myrtle Village Green submitted the attached proposal for interim use to DEP. Fingers crossed!

Anything is possible — what do we want?
A park? A playground? A farm? A dog run? A community center? Composting for the neighborhood?…

it seems like a lot of people have comments about a dog run!
but wanna put a stage…what sense does that make…kids can bring there dogs to a dog run and play with them if this is a movement for the children in perticular why should we care about talent performing there are 1000 ways to show case talent in 1000 other places…

  2. Peter Tzannes says:

The site is so huge, we could fit all kinds of things in there, like a bandshell and a patch of meadow for concerts and events, a veggie garden and a compost site, a play area for children, benches, shade trees, and, apparently, a dog run. It’s important, I think, to make sure it’s as multi-purpose as possible, so that no one use excludes too many other uses.

  3. Jamie Yates says:

A park with a garden and a dog run, please!

  4. James says:

I was thinking that incorporating daycare and after school programs into a place that grows vegetables and what not is a good way to empower children and teens. Maybe MVP can be a place where kids get this opportunity.

I Believe We should Build A Daycare Or A Park Something that we can all benefit from

  6. Stephaniee says:

My idea for this space is to add a stage where people can come & perform. There are alot of talented people in this community so why not let it be shown.

  7. JoeyJoYbzz says:

I believe that they should use the space to build a greenhouse …so people could learn how to grow and plant flowers and fruits

    • Liz Pardo says:

I like this idea a lot. The growing season in new york is short and gardening could begin sooner if we began with the seedling process in a green house.

  8. ROB HHz says:

For the youth to have a place to go after school to not be in the streets and a place for Brooklynites to grow fresh fruits and vegetables to eat instead of all the processed food being passed around.

  9. Jacquette says:

A food court, garden, and playground. These will benefit the community by giving the community new food choices, a chance to get the community involved in a community garden, and a new playground for children.

a meditation labyrinth would be nice.

  12. Meghan Keys says:

I told Paula this, but I had this great dream about being in the lot with a bunch of mazes and labyrinths made our of shrubs and tall grasses which blocked out alot of nonsense nose as I recall- it really was a dream, so I am thinking my neighbors were being loud and my subconscious was tuning out the noise. Regardless- it was pretty in my dream and might be in the lot too.
